Arrest Made in Brutal Liquor Store Attack

A suspect has been charged with aggravated battery and criminal damage to property.

A man who allegedly attacked a liquor store owner and put him in a coma has been arrested, DeKalb Police confirmed.

Konter Kelley, 31, was charged late Wednesday with attacking Mensaft Abraham, owner of American Package on Rockbridge Road.

Abraham tried to prevent Kelley from stealing a bottle of vodka and Kelley punched him in the head, WSB reported. Abraham fell, hitting his head on the floor and suffering "severe brain damage," Abraham's wife, Lemlem Abraham, said. He is in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Kelley was seen leaving the store's parking lot in a Honda and was pulled over shortly afterwards. He is charged with aggravated battery and criminal damage to property. More charges could be added later, depending on the victim's recovery.
