On the blog post Dual Accreditation: DeKalb's Safety Net

ReplyI agree with Chery Miller that "dual accreditation" should be called "secondary accreditation. I apologize for neglecting to explain the meaning of "dual accreditation".
We are not trying to push for a North/South accreditation. We were in agreement with Nancy Jester to strive for a "back up" accreditation through Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC). This is a "win-win" and/or "no brainer" solution to our school system being on probation with SACS.
Until DeKalb County School System is fully accredited, we need a secondary accrediting agency to cover our school system to protect the interest of our students, homeowners, and businesses. Once again, a "win-win" solution. This is placing our children first.

ReplyThe central issue - should fees have the power of a tax. Remember, taxes are increased by the representatives of the people while fees are increased "at will" by unelected people.

ReplyWe have received multiple complaints concerning water bills from the City of Atlanta and DeKalb County. I am forwarding examples of some of the problems identified with billing from DeKalb Department of Watershed Management. Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management installed automated water meters and found that 25 percent (approx. 9,139) had problems to include incorrectly installed, broken, and/or malfunction.
This issue goes beyond not paying your water bill. Should the homeowners who are experiencing problem with the water bill have the added worry of losing their homes? Turning off the water is not enough?DeKalb Homeowner Gets $1,500 Water Bill

ReplyWe did it! We defeated TSPLOST. We proved that coalitions will overpower corporate money and politicians. With a mustard seed of faith, we defeated an 8+ million dollar political mistake (TSPLOST).

ReplyIt takes another pet lover to understand the pain one feels when the family pet dies. I remember yelling for my 14 year old to close the door before our dog gets out. I then realized that our dog was dead and began to cry again. Our pets are part of the family. I send prayers out to everyone who has experienced the death of a pet.

I want Mrs. Nika Shields to know that "we care" and that she is not alone.
We experienced some fights and bullying at our middle school and wrote a complaint to the administration. We actually went to the school police department to file an Open Records Request to find out how many fights our middle school had during the year. Unfortunately, the administration said our incident was isolated.
Our child is asking to leave the school. He said that the "smart boys" are targeted for fights and/or called "gay". We paid for our child to receive karate training also. Why must these children go through this simply because they want to learn and be successful?
We will forward the document we sent to administration and the Open Records. Maybe the parents needs to mobilize and demand more accountability and safety in the schools. We pay too much money in school taxes for this level of violence to be happening. What are the SRO doing about this violence?
