Putting LA Fitness on Panola Was 'Best Move They Made'

Members who live nearby like this new gym's location, other fitness centers that have set up shop locally in recent months, and tried-and-true trails at DeKalb parks in our communities.

  Before LA Fitness opened in Lithonia on March 19, Maggie Seals would often make mad dashes to the gym's locations on Lavista Road or in Conyers. "The classes are good, so you're trying to get to that class," she told Patch. Now that the newly-built gym is up and running on Panola and Covington, things are much more convenient and less stressful for Seals, who doesn't live far from it. "I love the location. To me, that was the best move they made," said Seals, who said she had suggested a Lithonia location to personnel at the other LA Fitness gyms. Planet Fitness on Memorial Drive Now Open

The newest local workout facility is in the former Save-A-Lot grocery space.

Planet Fitness on Memorial Drive has opened. The facility, which opened up last week, is around 17,000 square feet and has more than 100 pieces of cardiovascular equipment. The former Save-A-Lot grocery store at 5211 Memorial Drive in the Stonemont Village shopping plaza was completely overhauled to accommodate the new workout space. The Memorial Drive Planet Fitness is one of the latest big gyms to open up locally. L.A. Fitness in Stone Mountain in Gwinnett County recently opened and an L.A. Planet Fitness To Open On Memorial Drive

Slated to open in January, the new health club will be located in Save-A-Lot's former space in Stonemont Village shopping plaza and will hire about 20 people.

Planet Fitness is moving into space on Memorial Drive. The health club, which will be around 17,000 square feet and hire about 20 people as well as two managers. It took over Save-A-Lot grocery store’s former location at 5211 Memorial Drive in the Stonemont Village shopping plaza on October 1, said Stanley DeMartinis, Jr., managing partner with Alder Partners LLC, the firm that operates the Planet Fitness franchisees in the metro Atlanta market and the Boston area. DeMartinis said since putting an ad up on Craig’s List that Planet Fitness was hiring for its Stone Mountain location, it has received 300 applications.
