Stone Mountain City Council Races, Sunday Alcohol Sales and SPLOST Results

Voters approve Sunday alcohol sales in the City of Stone Mountain.

Here are the unofficial and incomplete election results from DeKalb County's Election Summary Report late Tuesday night: DeKalb County SPLOST: Yes- 62.18 percent No-37.82 percent City of Stone Mountain, Sunday alcohol sales: Yes- 70.64 percent No- 29.36 percent City of Stone Mountain City Council, Post 1: Richard Mailman (incumbent): 94.26 percent Write-in votes: 5.74 percent City of Stone Mountain City Council, Post 2: Clause Friese, 19.58 percent; Denise D. Glenn, 25.17 percent; Mozell Sims Hurley, 7.69 percent; Cyril Mungal (incumbent), 47.09 percent. City of Stone Mountain City Council Post 3: Chakira Sallee (incumbent): 95.92 percent. Write-in votes: 4.08 percent.

Get Ready to Vote

Find your polling place and view a sample ballot.

Today, voters in the City of Stone Mountain will choose from among the four candidates for City Council Post 2 as well as Post 1 and Post 3, in which the incumbents are running unopposed, and decide on Sunday alcohol sales. Local voters will also decide whether to renew the Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) - the measure to continue a 1 cent sales tax intended for capital improvements for DeKalb, Decatur, and Atlanta school systems. Residents will be able to cast their ballots at local polling places between the hours of 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. They can locate their assigned polling places and see a sample ballot by visiting the Georgia Secretary of State website.

Four Candidates Running for City Council's Post 2 Seat in Stone Mountain

Elections are Nov. 8.

Sunday alcohol sales and SPLOST aren't the only things voters need to decide on Nov. 8 in the City of Stone Mountain. Four candidates, including an incumbent, are running for the City Council's Post 2 seat: Cyril Mungal, incumbent; Claus Friese; Denise D. Glenn; Mozell Sims Hurley. City council member Richard Mailman and Mayor Pro Tem Chakira Johnson Sallee are unopposed.

Opinion: To Change DeKalb School Board, We Must Keep e-SPLOST

Education e-SPLOST is necessary to improve school system, says Dr. Roberts.

By Carla Roberts, MD, PhD In November DeKalb voters will be asked to reapprove a one-cent sales tax for the construction and capital improvements to school buildings across the entire County. This is not a tax increase; the Education SPLOST is how DeKalb County Schools has funded school construction since 1996 – when the SPLOST was first approved by the voters. It has been approved three times, and funded twenty-two new schools, twenty-two major renovations, and dozens of capital renewal projects. Some DeKalb Citizens Question SPLOST IV

Special tax to fund school renovations, improvements and building projects to be voted on Nov.8

Major renovations could come to Stone Mountain High School and Redan High School if SPLOST IV passes in November, but some county residents expressed concerns about the special tax during Saturday's DeKalb Legislative Community Cabinet meeting at Chapel Hill Middle School in Decatur. Under SPLOST IV, which voters will decide on in the Nov. 8 election, there would be additions and renovations to Redan High School, Comprehensive Arts School at Avondale Middle School, and Henderson Middle School. Stone Mountain High School and Southwest DeKalb High School would also undergo substantial makeovers.
