AJC reports: Attorneys say Hashim Nzinga is being held against his will and denied a probable cause hearing after his arrest.
The legal team for Hashim Nzinga, the New Black Panther Party leader arrested last month, say he is being illegally held against his will and is being unfairly denied a probable cause hearing, the AJC reported Thursday. In March, Nzinga, 49, was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He gained attention when he announced a bounty on George Zimmerman, the shooter in the highly publicized Trayvon Martin case. Nzinga's DeKalb County warrant stated he was in possession of an FN Herstal 5.7 x 28 handgun, according to the sheriff's office. Investigators learned that Nzinga allegedly pawned the gun at A Stone Mountain Pawn Shop at 4591 Rockbridge Rd., the sheriff's office said last month.

Johnson calls incident "an injustice."
Rep. Hank Johnson (D-District 4)'s office announced Friday that he has joined the chairs of the Congressional Black, Hispanic, Asian Pacific American and Progressive Caucusus in saying that the Department of Justice should get involved in the investigation of Trayvon Martin's death. Martin was the teen shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, in a Sanford, Florida gated community in late February. Zimmerman said he shot Martin in self defense. Martin, who was black, was unarmed. Zimmerman is Hispanic, his father told the Orlando Sentinel. There have been rallies calling for further investigation of the case and Zimmerman's arrest.
