DeKalb Commissioners: Stop Fundraising at Intersections
In a unanimous vote this week, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to cease fundraising efforts at traffic light intersections. Adults and other groups who do so will need to pay a weekly $25 permit fee.
The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution to stop fundraising at traffic light intersections. The resolution, which encourages schools and recreational leagues to stop this type of fundraising activity, was described as an effort "to protect our youngest constituents as well as to support alternative and creative fundraising strategies that fund extracurricular activities," a press release from Super District 7 Commissioner Stan Watson's office said. "I understand how rising expenses and reductions to fund activities is directly impacting families, however it is imperative that the safety of our children is not compromised while innocently collecting cash," Watson said in the release.
