Dinner and a Movie: "Identity Thief"

The movie is playing at AMC Stonecrest 16. Check out our suggestion for a place to eat afterward.

The new movie "Identity Thief" filmed scenes in the Atlanta area. Might that be the only reason to see it? Some reviewers don't like this movie very much. Critic Michael Phillips writes on Chicagotribune.com: The screenwriter of "Identity Thief," Craig Mazin, gave us "The Hangover Part II." All these pictures belong to the same realm of exhausted, mean-spirited comedy, pushing casually sadistic mayhem in the guise of slapstick, destined to make millions on the backs of its actors. You can't really talk about any of these pictures in terms of their comic machinery because, at heart, they're barely comedies. They're situations in search of comedy. Ouch. The Rated R movie is playing at Mall at Stonecrest.

The Hansel and Gretel story, with the F-word and high-powered weaponry? Apparently, the new "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" isn't quite the German bedtime fairy tale you may be used to. The rated R "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" plays at AMC Stonecrest 16 today (Saturday, Jan. 26) at 10:30 a.m., 3:40 p.m., 8:50 p.m.; in 3D at 1:05 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.; and in Imax 3D at 11:30 a.m., 2:05 p.m. 4:40 p.m., 7:15 p.m., and 9:50 p.m. Here's what movie critic Roger Moore of McClatchy Newspapers, said about "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters": High concept pitch or no, the movie doesn't really work.
