Public High School Isn't Cheap

An article in U.S. News & World Report says there are five hidden costs of public high school.

Never mind private school - public school can take a real bite out of parents' wallets. According to the article "5 Hidden Costs of Public High School," in U.S. News & World Report, public high school is not as inexpensive as it once was. Thanks to issues such as government budget cuts, parents are increasingly dishing out money for certain supplies, extracurricular activities and more, the article said. At local high schools, everything from class dues to fees for sports, marching band and clubs can cost parents hundreds (if not more). This year we had to pay for prom, soccer, and orchestra dues for one, and a pricey graphing calculator for another. The calculator was the most surprising to me because at $100+, that's really expensive for a required item.   more ›
