Stone Mountain City Officers, Citizens Commended for Coming to Policeman's Aid
A city police officer who dislocated his shoulder during a tussle with a long-time suspect in the city was recognized Tuesday along with a concerned and helpful resident, city worker and two additional officers.
City of Stone Mountain Chief of Police Chancey Troutman on Tuesday commended a police officer who was trying to subdue a suspect reaching for his gun, and also recognized the two police officers, a city worker and a resident for coming to the policeman's aid in the November 11 incident. During the presentation at the city council's Tuesday meeting, Troutman said officer Jared Marlowe had caught up to a known and long-time suspect, Melvin Rhodes, after a chase into a city neighborhood. Troutman said Rhodes became combative. When Marlowe "gave chase, he caught up to him and it pursued into a fight. This individual tried to get officer Marlowe's gun," Troutman said.
