Report: Stone Mountain Police Barred From Using Radar Guns for a Year

The suspension, reported by WSB, comes after a $50 million class action lawsuit was filed in August accusing the police department of illegal use of speed detection devices.

According to a report by WSB, City of Stone Mountain police have been barred from using radar guns for about a year. WSB cited a letter from the state's department of public safety. The reported suspension of the use of radar guns follows a $50 million class action lawsuit filed last August by Decatur lawyer against the city and some of its leaders, including mayor Pat Wheeler and police chief Chancey Troutman, claiming illegal use of the police department’s speed detection devices, or laser. The suit alleged that the police department, for a period of three months, did not renew certification of its speed detection devices. Check back for updates.
