Ugh.Those soggy, hot August Dog Days are upon us. Normally, this is the time that “get-up-and-go” activities fall off to almost nothing except for school starting and temperatures soaring up to the high 90s. Not so for this August. No one needs sunscreen in an air conditioned room. Opportunities abound to sip and savor your favorite beers, wines, and spirits. There is so much to do and so little time! From the South’s largest German Bierfest to the promise (maybe) of a La Tomatina festival tomato fight, the list goes on and on and on. Folks bus to VIP brewery tours; executives from Italy, Oregon, California and Spain are visiting offering wines. There are celebrations for delicious craft beers and a new growler shop opening -- even wine…

From the huge Atlanta Food and Wine Festival to Cinco de Mayo parties and the American Craft Beer Week fests in East Atlanta and Dunwoody, May is offering up an array of wine, food, beer and spirits tastings and dinners welcoming the summer months ahead. Other choices include the Smyrna Wine Stroll, the Blues, Brews and BBQ in Piedmont Park, a beer breakfast in Decatur, “Eats and Beats” in Buckhead, and two outdoor arts events in Duluth and Dunwoody, just to point out a few. May 4-6 – Duluth’s “Barefoot in the Park” Fine Arts Market kicks-off at 7 p.m. Friday in the Town Green with the gala “Carnevale,” a festival in the Italian tradition offering food from local restaurants accompanied by wines and beer. Celebrate wine, champagnes, whiskey and beer along with spring.
From the Parti Gras in Mableton to beer festivals in Athens and Atlanta, a UGA Bulldog party, a French Champagne tasting to an Irish Pub’s whiskey tasting, April festivities are stacking up to offer a diverse selection of events -- everything from a beer-filled “dunk” tank to a Champagne dessert reception in Marietta commemorating a Civil War incident. April 6. The 8th Vinings International Wine Crawl from 1-7 p.m. Saturday lets guests walk between four restaurants, sample fine and food from each establishment, all for a price of $6 in advance or $12 the day of the event. Last year 600 people participated. Participating restaurants include Noche, the event’s headquarters; Social Vinings, the Vinings Inn and the Vinings Fish Company. …

I was at th Parmans tasting. I'm a huge fan of merlot. I think the movie sideways kind of gave it a bad wrap overall... but i tend to think of it as an out of vogue "varietal" grape that goes best in a blend, thanks for the write up! http://twoguyswinesupplies.com/popularity-of-merlot/   more ›
