Stone Mountain CID Opens Web System for Employers

New online service highlights available jobs.

A new online service offered by the Stone Mountain Community Improvement District (CID) will promote local job openings. Through its website, the CID is providing a complimentary connecting point for job seekers and businesses hiring inside the Stone Mountain CID. As CID Chairman Larry Callahan explained, the online effort was initiated following input received while developing economic development strategies for the improvement district. “Businesses and community representatives expressed a great interest in promoting CID-based employment opportunities,” Callahan said. “The CID is providing this directory as a free service. Proposed Overlay District Would Keep Strip Clubs Out of Stone Mountain CID

There will be a public meeting today (Jan. 15) at 5 p.m. to discuss the proposed overlay district.

Updated 1/30/13: The DeKalb Board of Commissioners tabled the the proposed overlay district at its Jan. 22 meeting. Original story: The Stone Mountain Community Improvement District (CID) wants to keep adult entertainment businesses, which have been inquiring about setting up in the area, out of its boundaries. There will be a public meeting tonight at Eagle Rock Distributing, 1375 Beverage Dr. in Stone Mountain, at 5 p.m. to discuss the CID’s effort to create an overlay district that would prohibit those those types of businesses in the area, which goes along Mountain Industrial Boulevard roughly from Hugh Howell up to about Lawrenceville Highway. Stone Mountain CID Awarded $500,000 Grant

The State Road and Tollway Authority's contribution will help several road-related projects to come to fruition, the CID says.

The Stone Mountain Community Improvement District (CID) has received a $500,000 grant from Georgia’s State Road and Tollway Authority. The money makes it possible for the the CID to get several road-related enhancement projects off the ground within the Mountain Industrial Boulevard corridor, the district said in a press release this week about the announcement. “The Stone Mountain CID greatly appreciates this significant investment to help us restore this area’s standing as an economic development powerhouse,” CID president Emory Morsberger said in the announcement. “Our great state leaders recognize the importance of what we …

New Mast Arms and Signage Coming to the Stone Mountain CID

Crews are busy completing traffic signal and signage upgrades throughout the Stone Mountain Community Improvement District (CID).

According to a recent press release, DeKalb County and the Georgia Department of Transportation are "transitioning intersections in the greater CID area from traditional span wire mounted traffic signals to new mast arms extending across roadways." The upgrades also include improved signs, which will assist drivers with better navigation and direction.  The Stone Mountain CID has worked with county and state transportation officials to increase the aesthetics of the signal efforts, extending the CID's goal of enhancing the overall appeal of the area. Stone Mountain CID Gets $20,000 Grant

Special district wants to create 2,000 new jobs new jobs by the end of 2013.

The Stone Mountain Community Improvement District has received an $20,000 grant from The Development Authority of DeKalb County, the organization said. The grant is aimed toward helping the CID meet its mission to create 2,000 new jobs by the end of next year, 2013. The CID received an $80,000 grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission last February. The CID said it will now get professional assistance and come up with an economic development plan for the area. The CID roughly runs from Hugh Howell to East Ponce de Leon and all side streets within that corridor.
