Johnson's district includes Stone Mountain and Lithonia.
Rep. Hank Johnson, whose district includes Stone Mountain and Lithonia, introduced "The Help Entrepreneurs Create American Jobs Act" and "The Fairness and Transparency in Contracting Act" Thursday. A press release from Johnson's office states: The Entrepreneurs Act, a bipartisan bill, would permanently double the tax cut for start-up businesses. The Fairness in Contracting Act would ensure that federal small business contracts go to genuine small businesses instead of subsidiaries of large companies. See the attached video of Johnson introducing the bills. Under the entrepreneur act, the first-year startup expenses deduction would go from $5,000 to $10,000 for good. Upcoming classes at Lithonia library branches will teach participants the basics about starting for-profit and nonprofit endeavors.
Want to start a business or a nonprofit organization? Libraries in Lithonia are among the DeKalb branches that have free classes to give you the basics and a little more: > The DeKalb County Public Library (DCPL) is working with The Leadership Academy to will hold several classes on getting a business started. The series is called ""The Entrepreneur Endeavor" " and classes will be held at Stonecrest library in Lithonia, 3123 Klondike Rd. Here's some recent business news in Stone Mountain: Stone Mountain CID Looking After its Businesses The Stone Mountain Community Improvement District increased its patrols in the area around Vulcan Shoes on Hammermill Road in Tucker after the company alerted the CID to incidents of someone shattering the glass to get into the showroom and a person entering its parking lot, according to the CID's spring newsletter. Later, when a suspicious person was spotted in the employee parking lot, this time an officer was there to register the tag number and tell the person to keep it moving, the newsletter states. Here are some recent happenings in the local world of business: RAGS on Main Have you noticed the beautiful new display window on Main Street in Stone Mountain Village? That's "RAGS" -- which stands for Resale Accessories Garments & Shoes. The store is a subsidiary of the not-for-profit Prevention Partners Inc., whose president and CEO, Rose Robins Troupe, has "a passion for prevention," she recently told Patch. Troupe owns the store along with Shirley Caldwell, director of project development Proceeds from RAGS will help with with Prevention Partners' many efforts, including health screenings, awareness about childhood obesity, diabetes, Alzheimer's, and programs such as lunch for the homeless. New Orleans SnoBall Cafe in Decatur is opening a location in the city of Stone Mountain. It will be its second cafe. On its Facebook page, under a photo with "In Stone Mountain Village" written across the top, the company wrote: We are less than a week away from celebrating our SECOND LOCATION!
