AARF Pet Central Offers Dog, Cat Resources

Meet the Owner: Executive Director Susan Leisure gives Patch details on its training courses, supplies and adoption center.

It's only been two weeks since Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends Pet Central made its debut in the Village, but they've actually been around since 2002. Having its headquarters mainly consist of the founders' and volunteers' homes for several years, it was time, they decided, to make a resource center for the public.  As a no-kill, non-profit, spay/neuter center, AARF Pet Central is truly the ultimate resource center for dog and pet owners, or for anyone that wants to adopt a dog or cat. They are the "Whole Foods for pets" with their wide range of healthy food and supplies; they have an in-house cat adoption center; they have a dog washing area, complete with a raised tub so owners don't have to kneel; and educational pet courses, such as dog …

Getting Organized About Caring for Pets

Most people probably don't have as many furred friends as columnist Tracy Bishop, but his five ideas can help any pet owner get better organized.

Every year, we struggle to make resolutions we can stick with past January. Many of us don’t succeed, so this year I decided to do something a little bit different. In addition to caring for our menagerie of cats, dogs, and fish, my wife and I foster dogs for the Georgia Humane Society. So, I sat down with all of our pets and came up with a few that would make all of our lives a whole lot easier. Here are my top five: Create a Calendar - My pets depend on me for a lot, and keeping up with everything can be overwhelming at times. Not only do we have to keep track of vaccinations, heartworm prevention, and flea and tick prevention, but we also have to do regular brushings, ear cleaning, dental care, and clean our aquarium. In door or out door cat depends a lot on where you live. Son is in Denver and cats don't stand a chance against coyotes. Daughter is in Dallas and backs up to a creek - copper mouth snakes. She almost lost her 6 month old pug to one. Was in emergency for 4 days before he was out of danger. Niece in Hilton Head where alligators snap up cats and small dogs before you can blink and eye.
