Memorial Drive Walmart: The Structure Starts To Take Shape

Workers are now putting up the building that will become the new supercenter.

New Memorial Drive Walmart Could Have Summer Groundbreaking

General contractor bidding process begins in the middle of June, spokesman said.

With the necessary approvals in place, retailing giant Walmart is moving ahead with its plans for a Memorial Drive store near N. Hairston Road. Walmart's bidding process for general contractors begins in the middle of June, spokesman Glen Wilkins said in an e-mail. The entire process takes about three weeks. Wilkins said he hopes for the ground "to be broken in a month after that." The store, slated for a 2013 opening, will create about 300 jobs. The location would include a grocery component, deli, fresh produce, pharmacy and garden center but no Tire and Lube Express, Wilkins has said.
