12 Local Developments: Before, After and In Progress

Some projects are literally changing the landscape in areas of Stone Mountain and Lithonia.

  Several developments in Stone Mountain and Lithonia have changed the look of shopping centers, corners, shuttered businesses and vacant land within the last 12-18 months. Some developments are yet to come. Here's a look at a dozen projects, from new stores and gyms to senior housing, that have either put up a new name and look on an existing building, completely started from scratch, or are in the process of doing so. Lane Manor Senior Housing Not Full, Accepting Applications

You must meet certain qualifications for the HUD 202 community in Stone Mountain.

  There's still availability at the newly constructed Lane Manor Senior Housing in Stone Mountain on Redan Road (please see the attached PDF to the right of this article for additional information.) A spokeswoman with Retirement Housing Foundation in California, the owner of the development, provided this information for people interested in applying to live there: Lane Manor is a HUD 202 community – meaning that it is for adults 62 years of age or older who meet annual income limitations set by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) – for Stone Mountain that is $24,300  for 1 person or $27,750 for two people.  Residents will pay approximately 30% of their monthly income as rent, with HUD subsidizing the remaining amount. …

Lane Manor Senior Housing On Track to Start Renting in March

There's been a lot of progress on the Department of Housing and Urban Development project on Redan Road, which is slated to have rental applications available after December 1.

The HUD senior citizen housing development Lane Manor on Redan Road should be renting units around March 1, 2013, a spokeswoman with the project told Patch. Chris Ragon, director of communications with the owner, Retirement Housing Foundation, said it has received "a significant amount of inquiries about Lane Manor and anticipate having rental applications available to fill out after December 1, 2012." The rents will be on a monthly basis at Lane Manor, a development for adults age 62 and up who meet annual income limitations set by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Ragon explained. DeKalb Leaders Praise New Senior Housing Development

At Monday's groundbreaking for Lane Manor, political, business and government leaders were among those who said the senior living project is a good thing for the community - and the county.

DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis, Super District 7 Commissioner Stan Watson, and DeKalb County Community Development Director Chris Morris were among the leaders who spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony of Lane Manor, a 54-unit HUD 202 community for older adults.  Before the ceremony began on the future site of the nearly $6 million project, Watson told Patch that Lane Manor was a "quality development" and it will be ideally positioned in the community. "I think it's accessible here on Redan Road. They are very close to a lot of amenities," he said, including the Hairston Crossing Library, Kroger on S. I do not think they understand the idea of sustainable communities or doing what's good for an over developed area is.  When they say they choose a wooded site over demo'ing one of the many abandon shopping centers is comparable to saying I only eat chocolate because that's what I like.
