Groundhog Beauregard Lee, "Georgia's Own Weather Prognosticator," sees his shadow: get ready for six more weeks of winter.
Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania may have more notoriety in the groundhog-prediction game, but Gen. Beau Lee rules the business in these parts. He's been doing it for more than three decades. Stephanie Reeves, spokesperson for the Yellow River Game Ranch, reported a record crowd for this year's gathering. Well over 400 people gathered in the mid-20 degree weather, compared to an average of 150. After exploring around for a little bit, the infamous groundhog saw his shadow at 7:33 a.m. The crowd was visibly disappointed to hear about the extended winter. Dr. Flavia Mullens, the special guest of the day, said she hoped it would be a "nice winter," with a little bit of snow. "I just think there's nothing quite as special as a snowy day in …

Last year General Lee didn't see his shadow. What will happen tomorrow morning?
Update Jan. 31, 2:20 p.m.: According to the U.S. Naval Observatory, sunrise for Lilburn, Ga., on Feb. 2 is at 7:32 a.m. That means Gen. Beauregard Lee could emerge from his home around that time. So, if you don't want to miss the South's very own groundhog, be early. Visitors are allowed in beginning at 7 a.m. ------------- Georgia's own General Beau Lee is set to make his annual weather prediction at the Yellow River Game Ranch on Saturday, Feb. 2. It's been a wacky weather week in Georgia -- 70-degree temperatures, tornadoes, and lots of rain, and in the past two weeks frigid temperatures and icy roads have been a problem. So, getting the furry forecaster's prognostication is just in time. "I think people enjoy having some news that's …

Visitors from as far away as Florida were at the Yellow River Game Ranch to watch Lilburn's famous groundhog make his annual prediction Thursday.
Sarah Etheridge began celebrating her 18th birthday the same way she's celebrated the day for 13 years in a row: by coming to see Lilburn's famous groundhog, General Beauregard Lee, make his annual weather prediction. For many among the hundreds of people gathered there Thursday morning, the trek to Yellow River Game Ranch on Groundhog Day is an annual must-do. "It's a family tradition," said Linda Brown of Loganville. It was the 11th year to see Beau for her son Jason, and the sixth for son Spencer. And sometimes it's a reunion of "Groundhog Day" acquaintances. Etheridge's mother, Shirley Holmes from Lawrenceville, met Sonny Guntermann, from Lithia Springs, on Groundhog Day years ago. "It's the only time we see each other," Holmes said. …

Groundhog General Beauregard Lee is getting ready to receive hundreds of visitors on Thursday - and to predict whether we'll have an early spring.
With only a few hours remaining before his big moment, Patch caught up with groundhog General Beauregard Lee, Georgia's official weather prognosticator, at Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn. Organizers are busy getting his white-columned mansion, Weathering Heights, spruced up for the big day, when hundreds of visitors will turn up to see whether Beau predicts an early spring or six more weeks of winter. The general himself was pretty relaxed, and didn't seem too bothered about the big day. After all, he's been doing this for years, and the National Weather Service has given him two commendations for his accurate predictions. He also has two honorary doctorates: "DWP, Doctor of Weather Prognostication" from the University of Georgia and "…
