They've become such a part of the American economic scene their names are instantly recognizable: Black Friday. Cyber Monday. And the more recent addition, Small Business Saturday, which tries to make sure locally-owned businesses don't get forgotten in the holiday shopping frenzy. This year, some of the grand retail plans have come with an extra helping of controversy. Target stores will open their doors to shoppers at 9 pm on Thanksgiving night, prompting several petition drives in protest. The Better Business Bureau offers tips on how to avoid giving online hackers and scammers a shopping bonanza this Christmas shopping season.
According to shopping experts, Cyber Monday has now become the most popular day to shop for the holidays — and why not? That way you get to avoid all the crowds. However, shopping online opens you up to scammers and hackers just waiting to take advantage of this latest trend. “The convenience and ease of shopping online has replaced the hassle of going to the store for many people—but online shopping has its own set of risks,” said Fred T.
