City Manager Amos Officially Removed from Office by Council

Former City Manager Barry Amos was suspended from his position two weeks ago in a preliminary resolution because of what the counsel called "a failure to communicate."

  The Stone Mountain City Council finalized the firing of City Manager Barry Amos in a resolution at a special called meeting Monday night. Amos was suspended from office in a preliminary resolution by the council two weeks ago for "failure to communicate in a reliable and consistent manner," as Mayor Pat Wheeler said at both meetings. Amos had five days to file a petition for a hearing after the first resolution, but he did not do so, Wheeler said.  Council members delinced to discuss in detail the reason for Amos' firing, but member Steve Higgins said the council had about eight or 10 examples, some having to do with communication with city staff, including the police department. Amos' removal was effective immediately with the vote. …

Stone Mountain City Council to Hold Called Meeting, Budget Hearing

On the agenda for Monday night's called meeting are personnel matters.

  The Stone Mountain city council will hold a public hearing on the city's proposed 2013 budget, along with an executive session, a special called meeting and its regularly scheduled work session. Personnel issues are on the meeting agenda, as is an intrafund transfer. At its last regular meeting, the council suspended City Manager Barry Amos. He was replaced by Gary Peet, a former Stone Mountain mayor. City officials and council members weren't immediately available for comment on tonight's sessions. Here's what I believe is the schedule: executive session starts at 6, followed by the public hearing and the special session. The work session will probably be last. But I could be wrong and I'll let you know if I find out more. All three agendas for tonight have 6 pm as the starting time.   more ›
