"Out of Stone" Film to Show at ART Station May 20

The short documentary looking at the KKK's past in Stone Mountain will be part of the ART Station's Lunch Time series.

ART Station is scheduled to show "Out of Stone" -- the short documentary that looks at the Ku Klux Klan's past activity in Stone Mountain and some residents' recollections of those times -- during its Lunch Time series on Monday, May 20 at noon. Cost is $10 and includes lunch. For the presentation only, the cost is $5. ART Station co-founder and artistic director David Thomas said the film is about 12 minutes long. "Out of Stone," directed by Stephen Grum, was shown during the Atlanta Film Festival in March. ART Station is located at 5384 Manor Dr. in the city of Stone Mountain. "Raising of the Green" at ART Station March 17

The annual fundraiser will include live and silent auctions.

It's that time of year again: ART Station's "Raising of the Green" fundraiser takes place Sunday, March. 17 at its facility in the city of Stone Mountain. The event takes place from 6-10 p.m. There will be live and silent auctions, a raffle drawing for $1,000, samples from local restaurants, and more. Last year, the fundraiser netted $26,000. Giving Tuesday: A Chance to Give Back During the Holiday Season

ART Station in Stone Mountain City is among the nonprofits participating in the inaugural effort encouraging people to pause in their shopping and find a way to help others.

Will donating to charity ever be as popular as shopping during the holiday season? This partnership of nonprofits hopes so. For many people, the holiday shopping marathon began on Thanksgiving day, with some national chains opening their doors just hours after the traditional turkey dinner. Then comes Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, which has morphed into Cyber Week. Now, there's a new campaign asking you to open your wallet - Giving Tuesday. The Giving Tuesday website says the effort, coming on the heels of days devoted to consumerism, is designed "to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations." …
