This "clunky" movie is showing at the AMC Stonecrest 16.
The premise, courtesy of the film's official website: When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew. Here's what critics are saying: "Star Trek Into Darkness" is rated PG-13 for PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action and …

The re-release and the remake are playing at AMC Stonecrest 16.
This week we've got a compilation of reviews of two movies playing at AMC Stonecrest 16 in Lithonia. "Jurassic Park 3D" (Rated PG-13) Can you believe the movie "Jurassic Park," based on Michael Crichton's novel, is 20 years old? I remember holding onto my husband's arm rather tightly (and burying my face in his shoulder) during some of the more intense scenes. Here's what a few critics are saying about the re-release in 3D: The 3D conversion really does make you feel like you're watching a whole new movie. From a technical perspective, the conversion is remarkable. It's by far the best fake 3D I've ever seen, and I would hazard that it's better than the 3D on some films that were actually shot that way. -Mario Aguilar, Gizmodo It is …

The rated PG-13 movie is playing at AMC Stonecrest 16.
G.I. Joe - the movie, that is - is back in "G.I. Joe: Retaliation." The movie also stars Dwayne Johnson and Channing Tatum, who was in the first installment, "G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra." Except for one particular scene, some critics aren't saying a lot of good things about this movie. Here's an idea of a few critics' impressions of "G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation," which is rated PG-13 movie and playing at AMC Stonecrest 16 in Lithonia: It's a comic-book movie without any comic-book style, a juvenile genre piece that's – all too typically – intimidated by strong women but erotically transfixed by big, gleaming guns. Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger, posted on the Cleveland Plain Dealer In the end, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is a stupid film …

The rated PG movie is playing at AMC Stonecrest 16 in Lithonia.
It's opening weekend for "The Croods," the story of a Neanderthal family. But is it right for your family to see? Here's what some critics have to say about it: There’s a peculiar violence in the comedy in this CG-animated family film, similar to watching a loud, slapstick football game played by extraordinarily ugly plastic figures. Of course, the Croods are not meant to be beauties — they are, after all, a family of Neanderthals. But is the animation meant to be ugly, too? - Miriam Bale, New York Daily News Like Fred, Wilma and Pebbles, the heroes of this cute animated comedy are animal-pelt-wearing proto-humans. Unlike the protagonists of the old Hanna-Barbera cartoon, however, hunter-gatherers Grug Crood (voice of Nicolas Cage) and …

The rated R movie is playing at AMC Stonecrest 16 at the Mall at Stonecrest.
Bruce Willis as cop John McClane is back in "A Good Day to Die Hard," which opened Feb. 14. The rated R movie is playing today (Saturday, Feb.16) at AMC Stonecrest 16 at the following times: 11:55 a.m., 2:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m., 8:45 p.m., 9:30 p.m., 10:15 p.m. Dinner idea: Based on some of the reviews, John McClane seems like the type of "tough guy" who'd like steak. If you've got a taste for that, there are several local options, including Arizona's at 2940 Stonecrest Circle in Lithonia, just a hop and skip from AMC Stonecrest 16. A.O. Scott wrote this about the McClane character for the New York Times: McClane himself has evolved from angry Everyman to weary, worried dad. He travels to Moscow to help his son, Jack (Jai Courtney), who at …

The movie is playing at AMC Stonecrest 16. Check out our suggestion for a place to eat afterward.
The new movie "Identity Thief" filmed scenes in the Atlanta area. Might that be the only reason to see it? Some reviewers don't like this movie very much. Critic Michael Phillips writes on Chicagotribune.com: The screenwriter of "Identity Thief," Craig Mazin, gave us "The Hangover Part II." All these pictures belong to the same realm of exhausted, mean-spirited comedy, pushing casually sadistic mayhem in the guise of slapstick, destined to make millions on the backs of its actors. You can't really talk about any of these pictures in terms of their comic machinery because, at heart, they're barely comedies. They're situations in search of comedy. Ouch. "Identity Thief," rated R, is playing today (Feb.8) at the following times: 10:50 a.m., 1…

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to the big screen as a small-town sheriff with an Austrian accent.
At 65, Arnold Schwarzenegger has left the California governor's mansion and returned to his Hollywood roots as the star of Kim Jee-Woon's "The Last Stand." He plays Sheriff Ray Owens, who has moved from LA to a small, laid-back border town. The movie is playing at AMC Stonecrest 16 in Lithonia. Most of the town's residents have left to attend an out-of-town football game--just as the sheriff learns that a Mexican drug kingpin has broken out of prison and is heading for the border. Right through the sheriff's town. So it's Sheriff vs. Bad Guys, just as it was in "High Noon." It's a classic Western setup, with predictable outcomes. But way way more violent. Practically everything that can be shot, is shot. Here's what the critics are …

Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal have created a runaway train of a movie.
"Zero Dark Thirty" was generating controversy long before it hit the movie theatres nationwide on Friday. The movie is showing at AMC Stonecrest 16. Director-producer Kathryn Bigelow and writer-producer Mark Boal were criticized for showing CIA agents torturing inmates information leading to the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden. The movie claims to be factual, and the CIA insists that torture wasn't part of the mix. Bigelow and Boal also were thought to have allegedly obtained classified information, which they claim they didn't do. The movie follows a CIA female operative, Maya (Jessica Chastain), over the 10 years the U.S. hunted for Osama Bin Laden. She survives bombings and attacks, pouring over her computer and trying to assemble a …
