Susan Leisure, executive director of Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends in Stone Mountain city, answered five questions from Patch about the organization - including what's on its holiday wish list and its ongoing needs: Does AARF have a special 'holiday wish' this year -- a need you'd like taken care of before the start of 2013? We have some ongoing renovation projects that might take longer than the end of the year, but our two primary "holiday wishes" for our facility are: 1) to finish our dog adoption room, and 2) to renovate our cat adoption room. For the dog adoption room, we still need to add in the HVAC system (about $1200) and finish the outdoor fence area (about $1500). For the cat adoption room, we need new cat trees and scratching …

Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends has received donations toward getting the new air conditioner, which replaces an older unit that quit earlier this month. The group needs additional funding help as duct work needs to be completed.
Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends posted this update on Thursday, Aug. 16 on the organization's Facebook page about its air conditioning situation, which began earlier this month when the facility's 35 year-old unit quit: The new air conditioner is being installed today! Thanks to everyone who has donated so far. So far, we have raised 55% of our initial goal. The following are several organizations' needs for volunteers or donations. The groups listed are in Stone Mountain or in areas nearby: Volunteer coordinator Stephanie Burton said volunteers don’t have to be available everyday; even just one day of help would work. Let her know what day(s) you are available: rfsvolunteers@refugeefamilyservices.org Since the market runs from 4-8 p.m., things need to be set up by 3:45 p.m. and broken down by 8:15 p.m., the organization said. Set up involves going by AARF Pet Central to pick up the tent, table and supplies, actual set up at the market and bringing the items back to AARF. Volunteers are needed July 27-August 31.
