Hired! Dipesh: A Career Profile

Dipesh's employment success story is one of the more unique of the many achievements amongst Simply Biz participants.  Brought up by an Gujarati Indian family in Decatur, GA, Dipesh accessed services at WOW through thoughtful advocacy from his planning list administrator at Georgia DBHDD.  For the most part, Dipesh's family does not speak English, aside from his sister.  Utilizing a variety of resources, WOW and Dipesh's support team bridged the language gap to secure funding, transportation, and admission to Simply Biz.

Unsurprisingly, Dipesh faced many communication barriers at the onset of his employment training.  Before long, however, increased training in the community and active engagement with his mentors and community members helped to bring him out of his shell.  Bit by bit, his English started to improve. Meanwhile, WOW searched out available options for Gujarati support and translation.

Through active training in a variety of community employment settings, Dipesh quickly took to grocery work.  He began to clearly indicate that he looked forward to "bagging, stocking".  Fortunately, WOW has maintained an ongoing successful partnership with Kroger stores and the midtown Atlanta location in particular has proven to be accommodating and supportive of our participants.  Even more importantly, Kroger had store staff who speak Gujarati available as training and supervisory support for Dipesh.

Without wasting any time, a placement was made, to the delight of Dipesh, his family, WOW, and Kroger as well. The combination of WOW's existing relationship with this particular store, location, and available language support made this a match made in heaven.  Dipesh has thrived in his new position and describes himself as a "fast bagger."  He is currently working between 20 and 30 hours each week.  His supervisors offer glowing reviews of his performance.

Dipesh has maintained his position for over six months now and we couldn't be happier for him.  Language support onsite allows him greater opportunities to learn, grow, and advance in his budding career.  Furthermore, he continues to receive follow up support from Simply Biz, creating a well defined network of resources available should he require anything.

Above all else, the smile on Dipesh's face tells the story.  From his first day with Simply Biz, he demonstrated a hunger to work and provide for himself.  Through his own impressive diligence and the supportive guidance of the Simply Biz team, he has achieved this goal. There is much more to come for Dipesh, and we are excited to watch him shine!
