Photos: KaBoom! Playground Build at Mainstreet

About 200 volunteers put together a fun area for local kids to get out and play.

About 200 volunteers showed up on a beautiful Saturday to help build a brand new playground in just one day in the Mainstreet community in unincorporated Stone Mountain.

Besides , life insurance company (and the project's funding partner) Foresters and organizers from the national non-profit "dedicated to saving play," KaBOOM! are behind the project.

The playground will be open to community children, but not so fast, kids: Nadine Rivers-Johnson, association on-site property manager for Mainstreet and editor-in-chief of its Mainstream newsletter, said they'll have to wait at least three days before getting on the equipment. The playground includes a Slither Slide, Rockblocks Climbing Wall and Adventure Tube, KaBOOM! said.

Helping hands performed myriad tasks, including loading mulch into wheelbarrows, building different components to the playground, constructing planters and benches, mixing concrete, painting colordul signs and hopscotch boards, and anything else to get the project done May 5.

It was great to see the community come together for such an awesome event! To see this playground come together from start to finish was amazing and very rewarding. Ms.Nadine and team did wonderful planning. The kids even got involved with recycling and planting in the Community Garden across the street! Thanks to all the Sponsers and volunteers for investing in our children and community!
