SRC: I joined as an adult volunteer about eight years ago when my daughter’s troop leader had asked me to be the assistant troop leader during one of my daughter’s Girl Scouts meetings. Today, I serve as an official Troop Leader for troop #26408 and am also the Service Unit Director for Southeast DeKalb County.

How does it feel to be awarded this knowing there were a lot of other adult volunteers to choose from?

It’s very exciting and an unexpected honor to be receiving the Appreciation Award. I still don’t think it has sunk in with me yet.

Is there any specific story or occurrence that you can recall, or were told, that helped you win this award?

“Our service unit in DeKalb has been dwindling, and I have been working very diligently to build capacity for not only the young girls but for the adult volunteers to give them the Girl Scouts experience.”

What is the most rewarding part of being an active volunteer, aside from winning an award like this?

“The impact that volunteers get to have on the girls. You have the potential to shape a young person’s future and that’s so important.”
