Help Needed: PAWS Atlanta Among Groups with Tasks for Volunteers

Responsibility, commitment required for organizations such as Refugee Family Services, Red Cross.

Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends' (AARF) new location in downtown Stone Mountain, at 6570 James B. Rivers, will hold its next volunteer day Saturday, May 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Send an email to melanie@aarfatlanta.org if you can help.

PAWS Atlanta, 5287 Covington Highway in Decatur, could use caring and committed volunteers  who can assist with walking and socializing dogs, socializing cats, helping in the cat cottage, and more. Click here to go to its volunteer applications page.

The Metropolitan Atlanta chapter of the American Red Cross is looking for disaster volunteers in a number of counties including DeKalb, where a high number of fires require extra helping hands. It could also use disaster volunteers two to four hours a week either at the chapter headquarters location or at the Covington Highway office: 3486 Covington Highway, Decatur. Refugee Family Services
, 5561 Memorial Dr., Stone Mountain, 30083-3237, continues to need family literacy tutors, after school tutors/mentors, and one-on-one tutors/mentors, among other help. Parkwood Farms Therapy Center, 2519 Parkwood Road, Snellville Ga 30039, is a multi-discipline therapy center that needs volunteers who are age 14 or older and “have a genuine interest in serving others,” according to its web site. Needs include horse handling, sidewalking, grooming and barn help, yoga instructing, grounds-keeping, among others. Volunteers also shouldn’t mind “getting a little dirty.” The center asks each volunteer to give a minimum of an hour.
