YMCA Day Camp Helps Summer Learning

The camp provides exciting and educational programs for children, teens and their parents.

This summer, the Wade Walker Park Family YMCA is encouraging parents to give their kids a chance to explore nature in YMCA day camp. Campers gain new experiences, develop essential social skills and create lifelong friendships, while enjoying camp adventures along the way. It is also a great way to reduce the rate of summer learning loss.

“Children and teens have participated in day camp at the Bransby Outdoor Y in Lithonia since 1986,” says Deb Beauford, senior program director at the Wade Walker Y.

“For the first time this year, we are offering a day camp opportunity for Stone Mountain residents at our new Y at Wade Walker Park. Day camp gives kids new responsibilities, so they learn independence. As a result, they become more confident, are open to trying new things and they grow as individuals and as part of a group.”
