Weekend Planner: Art Stroll, National Trails Day

Those are just two things to do in and around Stone Mountain this weekend.

We welcome June with another weekend filled with local recreational, creative and educational options. See what's going on in the area and not too far away:

1. What: Country Style Breakfast

When: Saturday, June 2, 7-9:30 a.m.

Why go: An all you can eat country style breakfast for $5 is pretty much unheard of.

2. What: Homeowners Appreciation Breakfast Expo

When: Saturday, June 2, 9-11 a.m.

Where: Chapel Hill Middle School, 3535 Dogwood Farms Road, Decatur 30035.

Why go: Learn about saving your home from foreclosure, resources for purchasing a new home and for modifying a loan, information on recycling your home, reverse mortgages, and more. Presented by DeKalb County Super District 7 Commissioner Stan Watson, his legislative breakfast this month is sponsored by Debra DeBerry, DeKalb County Clerk of Superior Court.

3. What: Open Day at Stone Mountain Village Community Garden

When: Saturday, June 2, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Where: Gordon Street, behind Stone Mountain Post Office on West Mountain Street, city of Stone Mountain.

Why go: Check out what's been growing in Stone Mountain's Community Garden. Get a hot dog, drink, and desserts by the gardeners while you're at it.

4. What: Art Stroll

When: Saturday, June 2, 7-9:30 p.m.

Where: ART Station and five SMART galleries in Stone Mountain Village.

Why go: Check out local artists' creativity (and who knows, maybe buy some of their work!), mingle and chat.

5. What: Movies on Main

When: Saturday, June 2, 8-10:30 p.m. (sundown)

Where: Baptist Church lawn, Stone Mountain Village (middle of town)

Why go: A free good time with the family. Scheduled movie: "Dolphin Tale."

5. What: National Trails Day Celebration

When:Β  Saturday, June 2 9 a.m.

Where: Panola Mountain State Park, 2600 Highway 155, SW
Stockbridge

Why go: Take this guided hike to get into the spirit of National Trails Day first thing in the morning. Meet at the nature center 15 minutes before the program starts. There's a $10 fee, plus $5 parking. Register in advance by calling 770-389-7801.

6. What: Full Moon Night Hike

When: Saturday, June 2, 8 p.m.

Where: Panola Mountain State Park, 2600 Highway 155, SW
Stockbridge

Why go: If you didn't make the morning hike (see above) try this one when things are dark. I've been; it's a nice adventure. Same drill as the morning hike: Meet at the nature center 15 minutes before the program. Register in advance. There's a $7 fee plus $5 parking. Call 770-389-7801 to register.
