Stone Mountain-Lithonia Summer Camp Guide
Make sure you get your kids registered now to get them out of the house and exploring their talents in summer 2013!
The bright sunshine and recent warm temps of late are reminders that summer is just around the corner. That means it’s time to sign up the little ones for summer camps to keep them busy, stimulated and refraining from the dreaded summer whine of “I’m bored!”
Here’s Patch’s roundup of regional summer camps that may be a perfect fit for your kids (we'll add more local camps to this list).

The annual summer camp sets up at county rec centers including the Lithonia facilities of Browns Mill, 5101 Browns Mill Rd.; Lucious Sanders, 2484 Bruce St.; and Redan, 1839 Phillips Rd. Activities include field trips, swim lessons, arts and crafts, and much more.
Ages: 5-15

Smoke Rise Baptist Summer Camp
Enrollment for Smoke Rise Baptist Church's 2013 summer day camp is now open. The myriad activities for campers include chapel, music and games as well as "activity boot camp" and community service experience for the teens. Visit Smoke Rise Baptist Summer Camp's Facebook page.
Ages: Pre-K-6th grade (spirit camp); 7-10 grades (back-hall bunch).
Dates: Begins the Tuesday after Memorial Day and ends after the last week of July. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Cost: An initial $60 registration fee (maximum 2 per family); pre-enrolled weeks -- that's with at least 7 days advanced notice -- are $210 for ages under 13 and $195 for teens. The Galloway School Summer Camps
The Galloway School offers a variety of summer camps, including unique ones like video game programming camp, for children ages 3-14. The camps are each a weeklong and are designed to help children explore their various interests and talents.

Pace Academy offers three general summer camps for specific age groups as well as specialty camps, like the two-week Dangerous Camp for Boys and Girls, which costs $700.

Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta
The Girl Scouts offer all kinds of overnight and day camps for girls of all ages.

Does your little one adore her or his Easy Bake Oven? Is she or he like a shadow while you’re making dinner in the kitchen, just desperate to help out? Camp Can-I-Cook is offered by the Young Chefs Academy of Sandy Springs.

The Fernbank Museum of Natural History is offering various weeklong summer camps. According to its website, educators will guide campers on an exploration of the scientific world: ecology, paleontology, entomology and more. A low counselor-to-camper ratio ensures your child’s safety while providing a unique one-on-one learning experience.
Ages: rising kindergarteners to fifth-graders
Dates: vary per session
Times: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., depending on program (Aftercare is also available for additional costs.)
Costs: $350 for nonmembers and $300 for members
The Summer Safari Day camps offered at Zoo Atlanta gives children a hands-on learning experience about wildlife and nature. There are full-day and half-day camp options available as well as aftercare.
Ages: potty-trained 4-rising fifth-graders
Dates: May 28 - August 9
Nonmember Costs: $175 for half-day; $295 for full day
Day camps are offered in one-week sessions at Glenlake Park, McKoy Park, and Decatur Rec Center. Special Interest Camps are offered throughout the summer during the weeks when City Schools of Decatur are not in session.
Ages: rising Kindergarteners to eighth-graders
Dates: vary per specific camp
Costs: varies, but financial aid is offered in some cases
Participants will enjoy instruction in traditional Taekwondo forms (Palgwe) and sparring (Olympic Style). Master Wallace Taylor will be teaching all weapons seminars! All participants will learn Nanchaku, Bojutsu(Staff) and Bokken(Sword)!
Ages: 5-16
Dates: Session 1: June 24-28; Session 2: July 8-12
Times: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Costs: $250 if you register before April 30
Children get to take part in a wide variety of activities that includes: gardening, crafts, games, cultural enrichment, music, Capoeira, storytelling, African history & art, dance, field trips, and weekly visits to the swimming pool.

Dates: not yet available for 2013
Times: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday
Costs: $875 (based on 2012 costs)
