DeKalb County Schools are now out for the year, the weather forecast is very warm but good, and it's a long weekend. Find something for everyone who's ready to enjoy and celebrate the Memorial Day holiday - without traveling too far.
1. What & Where: Memorial Day Weekend at

Why go: What's the holiday without fireworks? Watch the beautiful display after the Lasershow Spectacular in Mountainvision. Also, all active and retired military personnel will receive one free Adventure Pass with valid ID and save up to $10 off per person for immediate family members. In addition, they will receive 20 percent off food and merchandise (parking fee of $10 not included; acceptable ID are Common Access Card, DD Form 1173, DD form 2A, DD Form 1173, DD214, GA Veteran's Driver's License.)

Why go: Find bargains and get papers shredded while you wait (there will be a shredder on hand).
3. What: Movies on Main
When: Saturday, May 26, sundown
Where: First Baptist lawn, center of town, Stone Mountain Village
Why go: The movie, "Footloose" (partially filmed in Stone Mountain City) is free -- just bring a lawn chair or blanket. This is the first Movies on Main of the season.
4. What: AARF Yard Sale
When: Saturday, May 26, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
Where: AARF Pet Central,6570 James B. Rivers Dr., Stone Mountain
Why go: Another opportunity to find some nice deals on furniture, knick-knacks and other cool stuff in Stone Mountain Village. And the best part? All proceeds benefit the AARF (Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends) foster program.
5. What: Atlanta Audobon Society Bird Walk
When: Saturday, May 26, 8-10 a.m.
Where: Panola Mountain State Park, 2600 Highway 155, SW
Stockbridge
Why go: A hike while looking for and learning about birds seems like a very peaceful way to start the weekend. $5 for parking, bring your binoculars, and wear pants and sleeves. Meet at Alexander Lake: learn more about the Atlanta Audobon Society Bird Walk here.
6. What: Bowling and more
When: Monday, May 28
Where: Stars and Strikes, 1741 Mountain Industrial Blvd.
Why go: All active and retired military bowl free on Monday, May 28; also check out its "Double Dollar Daze" deal and other offers.
