Hit Hole in One, Win $1 Million

$1 Million Challenge returns to Legacy on Lanier Golf Club at Lake Lanier Islands Resort. Daily Qualifiers start Friday.

Potentially lucky golfers will again have the opportunity to make the shot of a lifetime and win the grand prize as the $1 Million Challenge returns to the Legacy on Lanier Golf Club. The challenge made its debut last autumn on the scenic golf course at nearby Lake Lanier Islands Resort. Twelve of the course’s 18 holes are set on the shores of Lake Lanier.

The Legacy on Lanier Golf Club announced that Daily Qualifiers for the Challenge start Friday, May 25, and continue through Thursday, June 21. Twenty-five players who shoot closest to the pin on Legacy’s Hole No. 10 during the qualifying period will be invited back to participate in the $1 Million Challenge at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 23.

On Challenge day, 30 players including five wild card players will each have a chance to make a Hole-In-One for the grand prize of $1,000,000. Participants will be drawn at random to determine order of play for their one shot at winning the money.

Players must pre-register in the Legacy on Lanier Golf Shop when checking in for their round and tee-off before 2 p.m. to participate in the Challenge. Official Rules can be viewed online at www.lakelanierislandsgolf.com or at the Golf Shop. The cost of the qualifier is covered in the club’s standard golf fees.

Golfers who do not qualify through the Daily Closest to the Pin contests will receive a “mulligan.” Five wild card players will be selected from a random draw of entries collected at the Golf Shop. Golfers may also register at Edwin Watts Golf at the Mall of Georgia, as well as other places where a “Legacy on Lanier $1,000,000 Challenge” registration box is displayed.

No one won the $1 million last fall, but golfers won other prizes in the Closest to the Pin contest. The top 10 golfers will compete for the following prizes this summer:

“Last year’s event was so well-received and a great deal of fun for all involved, we couldn’t wait to do it again,” said Brian Conley, a PGA golf professional and director of golf for Lake Lanier Islands Resort, in the announcement. “Not only does it encourage regular players to try their hand at the Challenge, it’s a great reason for occasional players to blow the dust off their clubs and get back out on the course.”

“While they are here between May 25 and June 21, we invite all players to take a shot at becoming a qualifier – since it’s included in the price of regular play, they really have nothing to lose. Plus, all players who win the Daily Qualifiers receive two rounds of complimentary golf at Legacy on Lanier Golf Club. We’ve had a number of players make a hole-in-one on Hole # 10 since our opening in 2009, so we know it’s entirely possible that some lucky golfer will walk away with the grand prize this year. The key is lots of practice and honing the ability to calm those nerves.”
