Hikes and Bikes at Lithonia's Nature Center

Outdoor summer programs are offered at Davidson-Arabia for the rest of the summer.

The Davidson-Arabia Nature Center has announced the remaining programs and educational hikes for the 2013 summer season.  

Hikes are rated as moderate and take approximately two to four hours to complete. Hikers should bring their own water. Interpretive and recreational hiking with Ranger Robby Astrove occurs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. at the Davidson Arabia Nature Center, 3787 Klondike Road in Lithonia.

Habitat Hikes - Explore the diversity of the Preserve’s habitats while trekking through forest, outcrops, fields, and wetland on Friday, Aug. 23.

Summer Tree Walks - Learn about Arabia’s rich biodiversity and tree species on an interpretive hike. We’ll note identification characteristics and learn why trees are so important. These hikes will be held Friday, Aug. 9 and Friday, Sept. 20.

Muscadine Madness - Hike forested trails in search of Muscadine, the grape of the south. We’ll learn more about Muscadine while gathering and enjoying the sweet taste of the grape. Bring water and a picking basket. This hike occurs Friday, Aug. 16 and Sunday, Aug. 18.

Arabia/Panola Hike and Bike - Guided by Park Rangers and Naturalists, hikers and bicyclists will make stops at several cultural sites and trails to learn more about the history and landscape of the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area on Saturday, Aug. 17. Bring your sense of adventure for the 14 mile round trip to Panola Mountain and back.   

Ranger Rendezvous — Meet up with Ranger Robby Astrove on the trail for a more rugged and adventurous experience of the Preserve on Friday, Sept. 13. Our four to five mile hike will be moderately difficult. Registration is required to receive trailhead directions and rendezvous location. Please register with rlastrove@dekalbcountyga.gov

Snakes of Arabia - Herpetologist Jeff Nix and Ranger Robby Astrove direct a hike and wildlife show on Saturday, Sept. 14. about snakes and the habitats the snakes need to survive.
