Third Week Results for DeKalb Schools' Cross Country

Arabia Mountain sophomore Matoaka Wilson won individual honors.

Clarkston senior Muhozi Aimable ran the fastest time of the season at the Druid Hills Middle School course while leading the Angoras to their third consecutive win in DeKalb County cross country action.

Aimable eclipsed his time of 17:42.23 set in the opening meet at Druid Hills Middle School by almost six minutes by clocking a 17:36.73 to take individual honors in the first race of the day.


He was followed by three Clarkston teammates in slots two through four as Hussen Sadik (17:42.58), Gidey Shalu (17:45.70) and Lieso Tumbo (18:21.62) ran in the Top 5 as the Angoras easily outdistanced Druid Hills 17-64.

Freshman Bienyam Tumbo finished seventh in 18:47.31 to give Clarkston five runners in the Top 10.

Druid Hills' first runners came across in eighth and ninth, respectively, as Kennarye Blackshear (19:01.79) and Ermias Tewolde (19:03.12) led the Red Devils’ contingent.

Chamblee’s Sidney McAdams (19:12.84) and William Linde (19:30.41) paced the Bulldogs third place finish in 10th and 11th place, respectively.

Redan finished fourth as juniors Keith Terry (18:23.17) and Cedric Roberts (18:25.22) battled for the fifth and sixth place finishes in the race.

Druid Hills won the girls’ first race of the day 35-75 over Tucker by placing five runners in the Top 10.

Paulette Jueing was fourth in 22:54.88 and Morgan Rossi was fifth in 23:00.83 to lead five Lady Red Devils in the Top 10. Olivia Montcastle (23:45.10) was seventh, Olivia Pool (24:04.23) was ninth and Rachel Jueing (25:19.98) was 10th.

Tucker’s Nuba and Naima Jackson flipped finishes again this week as Nuba made it two wins on the season taking first in a time of 22:39.57 while Naima was second in 22:39.83.Tucker’s Kiera Washington (23:26.23) was sixth and Redan’s Tanzanie Brown (23:46.60) was eighth to round out the Top 10.

Southwest DeKalb swept the boys’ and girls’ races to end the day at Druid Hills Middle School and wrap up the third week of DeKalb County Meet running.

The Panthers won going away in the boys’ race 21-62 over Towers and Arabia Mountain led by the one-two finish of Kameron Scott (19:10.09) and Khalid Johnson (20:09.36). Rashwin Jones (21:42.09), Malik Wright (22:08.41) and Brandon Spurley (22:35.83) finished fifth through seventh to put five Panthers in the Top 7.

Cornell Mattox (21:18.52) and Alema Favors (21:34.84) took third and fourth to lead Arabia Mountain while Glenn Jackson (22:39.57) and Dallas Little (22:43.47) led Towers with Top 10 finishes of ninth and 10th, respectively.

Justin McBean of Martin Luther King rounded out the Top 10 in eighth with a time of 22:39.09.

The Lady Panthers had three Top 10 finishers on their way to a 32-58 win over Cedar Grove in the girls’ second race of the day. Kayla Willis (24:22.53), Ashley Middlebrooks (25:45.27) and Kiana Mitchell (26:49.50) finished second through fourth, respectively for Southwest. Cedar Grove’s Shayla Toomer was seventh in 28:12.82 and teammate Tayler Smith was ninth in 28:14.55.

Arabia Mountain sophomore Matoaka Wilson won the individual honors with a top time of 24:06.53 while Columbia had three runners in the Top 10 in Aseneth Williams (27:00.01) in fifth, Da’Nesha Cross (27:54.28) in sixth and Delissa Grant (28:51.52) was 10th.

The next meet is set for Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Arabia Mountain High School.
