Stephenson Rolls to 2-0 Start

Saints were no match as Jaguars win 41-12.

Stephenson converted two first-quarter Cedar Grove turnovers into touchdowns and got a pair of TD catches from Demarcus Sweat as the Jaguars rolled past the Saints 41-12 at Halford Stadium.

Cedar Grove's Marlon Coley fumbled on the Saints' first possession, and Carlos Hood recovered for the Jaguars at the Cedar Grove 27. Six plays later, Mike Davis scored from 3 yards out to put Stephenson (2-0) up 6-0 after the PAT missed.

On the first play following the kickoff, the Jaguars' Raphael Kirby picked off Jonathan McCrary and returned the interception 34 yards for a touchdown to put Stephenson up 13-0 with 6:48 still left in the first quarter.

But Cedar Grove (1-1) responded with a 10-play, 80-yard drive to make it a 13-6 game when a scrambling McCrary found Xavier Cooper alone in the end zone with 3:18 still remaining in the opening period.

"I thought that those two quick scores might rattle them a little bit," said Jaguars head coach Ron Gartrell, "but they came right back at us. They have a good offensive team, and their defense really went after our running game."

Stephenson scored again late in the half when Sweat worked his way behind the Cedar Grove defense for a 70-yard scoring reception to give the Jaguars a 20-6 halftime lead.

Sweat added his second score on a 38-yard TD catch on the third play of the second half to put Stephenson up 27-6.

The Jaguars added a 1-yard dive by TJ Moon and a 13-yard run from Brandon Washington in the second half. The Saints got a fourth-quarter score on an 8-yard pass from McCrary to Everett Nicholas.
