Region Play Starts for DeKalb Middle School Football Teams

The 2013 Trail to the Title gets its start this weekend as the DeKalb County middle school teams open region action on Saturday.

Region four has one of the biggest matchups on opening week as undefeated Chapel Hill (2-0) takes on undefeated three-time Trail to the Title champion Miller Grove (2-0) at 9 a.m. at Avondale Stadium. Neither team has allowed a score in two games to open the 2013 season.


Miller Grove won last year’s contest 36-0 and is coming off a 46-0 shutout of Chamblee a week ago and a 48-0 shutout of Bethune in week 1. Chapel Hill shutout Champion 38-0 and Salem 30-0 to reach the 2-0 mark this season.

Region 1 has undefeated Tucker (2-0) taking on Henderson (1-1) in a 9 a.m. game at Adams Stadium on Saturday as they try to get a win up on three-time defending region champion Bethune (0-2) which is idle this week. Tucker won this Week 3 matchup a year ago with a tough 28-20 victory.

Henderson is coming off a tough 38-0 loss to defending Trail to the Title champion Lithonia last weekend, but holes a 20-14 win over Chamblee from the opening weekend of play. Tucker earned a tough 14-12 win over four-time Trail to the Title champ Stephenson on opening week and is coming off an impressive 46-0 win over Peachtree (1-1) last weekend.

Surprising Renfroe is 2-0 is atop the Region 2 standings heading into region play with wins of 27-12 over defending champ Lithonia and a 67-0 win against Sequoyah this past weekend. Renfroe takes on Cedar Grove (1-1) in a 10:30 a.m. game at Panthersville. Cedar Grove is coming off a 41-8 win over Bethune and won last year’s game against Renfroe by a score of 28-0.

Region 4’s Freedom is 2-0 heading into its 10:30 a.m. date against Stone Mountain (1-1) at Avondale Stadium on Saturday. Freedom owns wins of 50-0 over Sequoyah and 8-0 over Redan. Stone Mountain (1-1) was a 20-6 winner a year ago against Freedom and is coming off a 22-0 loss to Columbia this
past weekend.
