Stephenson’s perfect won-lost record may have been saved by the late heroics of defensive lineman Brandon Addison.

In Friday’s 24-17 win over upset-minded East Coweta, Addison turned in the play of the game with just seconds left. On a fourth-down play at the Stephenson 6-yard line, Addison broke through the line, got to the quarterback and forced an errant pass that landed in the end zone.

The play enabled the Jaguars to hang on and improve to 8-0.

Other top performers:

Mike Davis, running back: The senior rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns, according to a DeKalb County Athletics report. Unofficially, Davis has 1,271 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Brandon Washington, running back: The junior had 75 on just two carries (both touchdowns) and was named the team’s offensive player of the week for Week 8 (games through Oct. 14), as reported to DeKalb County Athletics.

Jafar Mann, defensive lineman: The senior had five solos, four assists, two tackles for losses and a fumble recovery and was named the team’s offensive player of the week for Week 8 (games through Oct. 14), as reported to DeKalb County Athletics.

Tyler Layton, punter: Averaged 37.9 on seven punts and had three total tackles, and was named the team’s defensive player of the week for Week 8 (games through Oct. 14), as reported to DeKalb County Athletics.

Gavaska Love, placekicker: The senior was named the team’s offensive player of the week for Week 8 (games through Oct. 14), as reported to DeKalb County Athletics.
