Middle School Footballers Tune Up for Second Week

Local teams are competing this week.

By Mark Brock

The second week of DeKalb County middle school football action is the final week of non-region play as teams use this week as a tune-up for region action that kicks off next weekend.

All 20 teams will be in action before open dates hit during region play in the coming weeks.

Defending Trail to the Title champion Lithonia (0-1) will try to get back on track after its opening week 27-12 loss to Renfroe as the Bulldogs travel to Avondale to take on Henderson (1-0), a 20-14 winner over Chamblee, in a 9 a.m. game.

Stone Mountain (1-0) is looking for a 2-0 start as the Pirates host 1-0 Columbia in a 9 a.m. game at North DeKalb on Saturday. Columbia’s 22-6 win a year ago almost kept Stone Mountain out of the playoffs.

Miller Grove (1-0) and Chapel Hill (1-0) both hope to finish the pre-region schedule undefeated in a pair of games at Hallford on Saturday. The Wolverines host Chamblee (0-1) at 9 a.m. while Chapel Hill hosts Salem (1-0) at 10:30 a.m.

Renfroe (1-0) has an opportunity to win two games in a row and improve on its 1-5 record of a year ago as Sequoyah (0-1) travels to Decatur High School for a 10 a.m. kickoff.
