DeKalb Schools Football: Week 6 Recap

Details on last week's Redan, Stephenson and Stone Mountain games.

The Stone Mountain Pirates got a needed Region 5B-AAA victory with a 21-10 road victory over Woodward Academy on Friday night.

The Pirates (4-1) were coming off a tough region loss to Cedar Grove last week and needed a victory to stay in contention for a playoff spot.

Markuss Eligwe led the Pirates to a touchdown in a drive in the final two minutes of the first half with a 34-yard scamper that helped set up a one-yard run for the score by William Parker.

The touchdown put Stone Mountain up 14-10 at the half. The Pirate defense then went to work in the second half shutting down Woodward's offense.

Eligwe sealed the win with a one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for the final of 21-10. Eligwe finished the game with 145 yards rushing and the game sealing touchdown.

The Pirates moved to 1-1 in region play and back into contention for a playoff berth.

Other Region 5-AAA Games The Cedar Grove Saints (3-2) improved to 2-0 in Region 5B-AAA play with a convincing 34-0 victory over the Columbia Eagles on Friday night.

The Saints are the lone undefeated team in Region 5B-AAA action while Columbia fell into a tie with Stone Mountain at 1-1.

Druid Hills rebounded from a tough loss to Grady last week with a 31-0 victory over North Springs. Druid Hills is 2-3 overall and 1-1 in region action.

Region 6-AAAA

Dunwoody 42, Lakeside 10. The Dunwoody Wildcats are trying to claw their way into a playoff berth after starting the season 0-2 and have put together a three-game winning streak following a 42-10 victory over the Lakeside Vikings (0-5).

Dunwoody (3-2) rushed for 400 yards and four running backs scored touchdowns in the victory.

SW DeKalb 21, Chamblee 0. Zavier Johnson and Malik Wright both rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown apiece to lead the Southwest DeKalb Panthers to a 21-0 victory over the Chamblee Bulldogs in Region 6-AAAA action on Friday.

The Panthers (3-2) are trying to remain in a playoff contention and the victory kept them in fourth place in the region while the Bulldogs (2-3) have lost three in a row after a 2-0 start.

Redan 28, Miller Grove 21. Redan (2-3) hung the second straight loss on the Miller Grove Wolverines (3-2) with a 28-21 victory. The Wolverines remain in a tie for that all important fourth playoff spot with Southwest DeKalb and Dunwoody. The Raiders have put together two consecutive wins to move within one game of the .500 mark.

Region 2-AAAAA

The No. 7 ranked Martin Luther King Lions remained undefeated at 4-0 with a 42-7 region victory over Langston Hughes. The Lions are atop the region standings at 2-0.

The No. 3 ranked Stephenson Jaguars (4-0) won their Region 2-AAAAA opener by knocking off Westlake 56-35 on the road. The Jaguars were coming off an open date and are now 1-0 in region play.
