DeKalb Basketball Scrimmages Begin

High school teams are tuning up for the 2014 season.

By Mark Brock

The first date for a regular season high school basketball is Saturday, Nov. 9, and scrimmages are on tap throughout the next week.

The Miller Grove vs. Norcross boys contest is set for Thursday, Nov. 14 at Norcross at 7:30 p.m. The game pits five-time state champion Miller Grove against Class AAAAAA 2013 state champ Norcross in a game sure to bring in a crowd as the two nationally ranked teams go at it.

The Tucker Lady Tigers, a Class AAAAA quarterfinalist in 2013, and Class AAAAAA state champion Norcross tangle in what should be an interesting girls’ contest as well prior to the anticipated boys’ matchup. The game starts at 6 p.m.

The State Champion Showdown as it is being billed takes place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, at Southwest DeKalb High School. Class AAA state champ Columbia under the direction of first year head coach Carla Hollaway takes on Class AAAAA state champ Southwest DeKalb, four-time state champion coach Kathy Walton and standout junior Tynice “Nicole” Martin.

Hollaway won a pair of DeKalb County Middle School Championships and takes over for Chantay Frost who left after winning her third state title in the last four years at Columbia in 2013.
