Cancelled Redan-Banneker Game Rescheduled for Thursday

A communication breakdown prevented last week's game, which will now go ahead.

The Redan-Banneker high school football game which was cancelled due to the late arrival of Banneker on Friday night has been rescheduled.

The two teams will play Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Panthersville Stadium in Decatur.

Redan claimed as a forfeit on Friday when Banneker missed the 5:15 p.m. kickoff time at Hallford Stadium. The mixup occurred because the game contract was changed during the summer to move the kickoff from 7:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. to accommodate the homecoming of Stephenson, which played the late game Friday. Banneker, which has a new principal and athletic director, was unaware of the change, according to the Georgia High School Football Daily.

Banneker coach Ryan Andrews said, "we're both off. I want to play the game, my players want to play the game, my parents want to play the game."

"It's bad for something like this to happen," Redan coach Willie Griffieth said. "Our kids were disappointed not to play. We won't mind playing. It won't be a problem."
