Stephenson Among Three DeKalb Wrestling Squads Competing in State Team Duals

Southwest DeKalb and McNair are also in the contest.

The Georgia High School Association is hosting the 2012 State Team Duals Tournament at the Macon Centreplex today (Friday) and Saturday and three DeKalb Schools teams are vying for the state title in their respective classifications.

The Jaguars rolled into the state tournament at 19-1 overall after capturing the Area 2-AAAAA title last weekend. The Jaguars have three wrestlers currently undefeated on the season in sophomore Stephen Wylie (24-0 in 152 division), sophomore Darian Perry (23-0, 160 division) and senior Mike Gales (16-0 in 195 division). Senior Dexter Brown is 21-2 in the 106 weight class as well. Stephenson opens the tournament against Benedictine today.

Southwest DeKalb enters the Class AAAA state tournament at 10-7 overall and the Area 6 runner-ups and face Forest Park in the opening round today.

The Panthers are led by senior Gabe Echols who is undefeated in the 285 weight class at 15-0 on the season. Junior Corey Strickland is 13-4 competing in the 145 weight class.

The third DeKalb entry comes in the Class AAA tournament as the McNair Mustangs enter at 18-1 on the season after finishing as the runners-up to Woodward Academy in Area 5.

McNair takes on Glenn Hills in first round action today. The Mustangs have three undefeated wrestlers entering the tournament in senior Kevin Barner (16-0 overall and 12-0 in 285 division), senior DJ Jackson (15-0 overall, 11-0 in 220 division) and junior Khalil Williams (15-0 overall and 9-0 in 120 division).
