Photos: Jumping Jacks to Break a Record

106 children participate at MJCCA Let's Move Event; Stone Mountain students also did their part in the challenge

Tuesday afternoon, 106 children took to atrium at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta and, for one minute, did as many jumping jacks as they could.

The children, who attend after school programs at the MJCCA, were joining more than 20,000 people across the country in an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records for most people doing jumping jacks.

"I saw it online," said Lauren Johnson, Sports and Fitness Coordinator at the MJCCA. "I decided it would be a cool thing to get involved with."

The nationwide initiative was part of both Let's Jump!, the National Geographic Kids' movement that urges children to live an active, healthy life, and Let's Move, First Lady Michelle Obama's comprehensive national initiative dedicated to solving the childhood obesity problem, more than 100 children from the MJCCA's after-school program.

The national event lasts 24 hours, starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday and ending at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

More children at the MJCCA were scheduled to participate later in the afternoon.

The International Community School in Stone Mountain also participated in the jumping jack challenge.
