Local Student Among Essay Contest Winners

Student at DeKalb Alternative School recognized today as one of three winners of National Center for Civil and Human Rights' essay contest.

Delismar Lopez, a ninth grade student at DeKalb Alternative School, is one of three winners of this year’s National Center for Civil And Human Rights’ (NCCHR) essay
contest titled “Read It. Embrace It. Express It," the DeKalb County School System said.

More than 150 middle and high school students across metro Atlanta took part in the Ford Motor Co.-sponsored contest, according to DeKalb schools.

The winners were announced at a special NCCHR celebration luncheon hosted by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed at Atlanta City Hall, Old City Council Chambers in Atlanta.
