East Town Gallery Grand Opening

When/Where: Friday, Sept. 16, 6-9 p.m., East Town Gallery, 5347 East Mountain Street, Stone Mountain. 

Why Go: The Butterfly House from the North Town Gallery is moving around the corner to the East Town Gallery in the Village. Check out its grand opening with a wood-turning demonstration and new art by Susan Ryles and other local artists, while enjoying food and wine. The other stores in the Village and SMart Inc. galleries will be open for shopping and dining, too.

"Rio" for Movies on Main

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 17, 8 p.m., the lawn of the , 5306 Mimosa Drive, Stone Mountain.

Why Go: Movies on Main continues in the Village this weekend with “Rio,” the animated film about a macaw who takes an adventure to Rio de Janeiro. Grab that lawnchair and a picnic basket and enjoy the flick with the family before the weather gets too chilly.

Night at Smoke Rise Fall Festival

When/Where: Friday, Sept. 16, 5-8 p.m., , 1991 Silver Hill Road, Stone Mountain.

Why Go: Join Smoke Rise Charter School and the communities of Smoke Rise and Tucker for a carnival atmosphere to raise funds for the PTA and other local organizations. Food, inflatables, games, face painting, music and more will be available.

Pricing: Tickets are $8 for those ages 6 and over, $5 for ages 3 to 5, and free for children 2 and younger.

Gwinnett County Fair

When/Where: Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 15-18, times vary, Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, 2405 Sugarload Parkway, Lawrenceville.

Why Go: The annual Gwinnett County Fair is back with rides, cotton candy, carnival games and all that jazz. Special shows and pageants will be available on certain days, so check out the fair's full schedule here.

Pricing: Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for seniors and children 6 though 12 years, and free for children under 6.

Fall Into the Arts Artists' Reception

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 17, 1-4 p.m.,, 788 Hillcrest Road, Lilburn.

Why Go: Gwinnett County Library invites guests to four area branches to meet artists of the annual Fall into the Arts celebration. Two artists will be at the Lilburn branch for an artists' reception: Latifah Shakir, a New Orleans artist who's had her work featured across the world, and Judith Suroweic, a painter of colorful energy.

A Day of Diva Dance with KiMMiE GEE 

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 17, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., The Lilburn Cultural Arts Center, 4230 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn.

Why Go: Rescheduled from last month, KiMMiE GEE's diva dance is a one-day workshop of confidence and self-love through dancing for girls ages 9 to 16. Atlanta local KiMMiE GEE, who's appeared in commercials and music videos and has performed live with Usher and Beyonce, will give dance techniques and positive affirmations to the girls, and the dancers will perform a routine at the end of the session.

Pricing: $25 per person.  

Stylish Consignments Coffee Chat

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 17, noon-2 p.m., and Lilburn Cafe, 5514 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn.

Why Go: Stylish Consignments is having a discussion with women role models. Three local authors and a business owner will discuss how to stay positive while running a business, while guests can network and chat. Afterward, food will be catered so guests can taste five to six different cuisines, and attendees will also receive 15 percent off whatever they purchase in the store. 

Pricing: $10 per person, which can be paid at the door.

Oil Painting Workshop

When/Where: Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., The Atlanta Fine Arts Academy, 2200 Northlake Parkway Suite 150, Tucker. 

Why Go: Bring your own canvas and paint for an oil painting workshop for beginners and intermediates. Painter James Richards, who specializes in landscaping and effectiveness of color use, will teach the class by doing a demonstration and then will let you run wild with painting your own creation.

Annual Fall Bash at
