Frugal Family: Back-to-School Clothes Shopping

Between the tax free holiday coming up in August, second-hand stores and retailer deals, there's no need to spend a fortune on clothes the kids will soon outgrow anyway.

Chances are the clothes your children donned during the last school year no longer fit. And the kids are still growing, so why spend a lot on new outfits?

Here are some places and deals to check out for inexpensive back-to-school clothes shopping:

Second-Hand Clothing

(FODAC): Children's clothing is $1, and the last Tuesday of the month (the next one is July 31) everything with the exception of furniture is half off in the store. Address: 4900 Lewis Road.

Kid-to-Kid Consignment: Tops and T-shirts start at $2.99; you can also sign up to get e-mail alerts on deals.

When you turn in your gently used children's clothing and other kids' items, you can earn cash up front or get 20 percent more in store credit. Kid to Kid is now buying school appropriate clothing.

Goodwill: Check weekly for the special tag color that gets you certain half-priced items, including clothing. Note: This week (July 24-28) the half-off tag color at the Lilburn location is red. Address: 5279 Lawrenceville Highway.

Salvation Army: Clothes are half-off on Wednesdays.
