First Annual Georgia Naturalist Rally and Butterfly Symposium coming to Stone Mountain Park

Atlanta, GA, September 6, 2011 - The Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia invites educators, nature lovers and outdoor enthusiast to join them for the very first Georgia Naturalist Rally and Butterfly Symposium on Saturday, September 24, 2011.  The rally, being held at Stone Mountain Park, will bring together participants interested in exploring and appreciating the great outdoors. Naturalists, master gardeners, water experts and professors will be your instructors for exciting sessions throughout the event. Explore a lake from a canoe or learn about capturing the beauty of wildflowers through the art of photography.

Registration includes access to over 20 sessions, an evening program and bar and more! Sessions will include a wide variety of topics including bee and insect monitoring, birding, macro invertebrates study, wildflowers, insect identification, photography, Native American history, geology, Edible and Medicinal Plants and more.  Also scheduled is a special track designed just for kids’ ages 5 to 15 years old and their parents.

The evening program scheduled is a photographic journey entitled Porch Light Insects by Larry McDaniel. This program is a collection of photographs Mr. McDaniel has taken, mostly on the back porch of his home. Mr. McDaniel will explain his technique for drawing insects and other invertebrates attracted to light to his porch. He will guide the audience through the simple steps to setting up a “porch light studio”.

The event is $20 for current Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia members and $45 for general public. The general public price includes a yearlong membership to the Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia.  The kids track is $5/child (must be accompanied by adult). Lunch and Dinner may be purchased for $8 and include vegetarian options.
