DeKalb Schools Track: 23 Qualify for Class AAAAA Sectionals

Martin Luther King Jr. and Stephenson competed in the Region 2-AAAAA boys’
and girls’ championships held recently at Langston Hughes and qualified a
combined 23 athletes in individual events for the April 28th Class AAAAA
State Sectionals at McEachern.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Lady Lions (121) finished second and the
Stephenson Lady Jaguars (85) tied for third in the girls’ competition won
by Westlake with 154 points.

The Lions 121 point total was fueled by Felicia Brown’s gold medals in the
200 (23.59) and 400 (55.77) meter dashes and Jada Martin’s gold in the 100
(11.92) and silver in the 200 (23.65).

King also swept the 4x100 (46.20) and the 4x400 (3:49.30) meter relays.
Other gold medal winners for the Lady Lions included Dominique Gross in
the high jump (4-10.00) and Zakia Jackson in the pole vault (7-00.00).

The Lady Lions put seven athletes into the sectionals along with both
relay teams.

Stephenson put together its third place finish without benefit of a gold
medal performance, but got silver medals from Jessica McCall in the 100
meter hurdles (14.93), Kaliah Neal in the long jump (17-09.00) and
Ashandria Henry in the shot put (37-04.00).

The Lady Jaguars had five qualifiers for the sectionals along with the two
relay teams.

The Stephenson Jaguars put seven into the sectionals as they took fourth
in the region standings.

Amos Harper threw 141-11.00 in the discus to pick up the Jaguars only gold
medal.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Lions took sixth in the team standings led by
Jordan Moore's win in the 110 meter hurdles (13.39) and a silver medal in
the 200 meter dash (21.37).

The Lions had four qualify for sectionals along with both relay teams.
