DeKalb Schools Baseball: Week 2 Results, Tucker goes 3-0

Tucker rolls to three wins in Week 2 of baseball; Redan Raiders got their first win Feb. 27.

An impressive showing by Tucker served as the main highlight among many
for DeKalb County schools in baseball action from last week.

Coach Bobby Gonzalez and the Tucker Tigers bounced back from a pair of tough losses the previous week to roll past Berkmar (8-2) Feb. 27, Central Gwinnett
(10-3) Feb. 29 and Meadowcreek (6-0) March 2 in a 3-0 run that pushed
their overall record to 3-2.

Coach Terrence Canty's Miller Grove Wolverines posted a perfect showing
for the second straight week, besting Towers (5-1) Feb. 27 and Cedar Grove
(8-1) March 2 to improve to 3-0 overall for the year. Columbia likewise
remained undefeated on the season at 4-0-1.

Coach Steve Dennis and the Eagles battled Chamblee to a 3-3 draw Feb. 27
and then registered easy triumphs over Clarkston (15-0) Feb. 28 and Mays
(9-4) March 2 in a 2-0-1 week.

Druid Hills and Redan also realized perfect 1-0 weeks. Coach Matt
Gershon's Druid Hills Red Devils defeated Berkmar by a 10-4 count March 2
in moving to 2-1 for the year.

Coach Marvin Pruitt's Redan Raiders picked up their first triumph of the
year in a 3-0 blanking of South Gwinnett Feb. 27, improving to 1-2 overall.

Individual Highlights

Tucker used three stellar pitching efforts in a perfect 3-0 week.
Sophomore Aaron Perry struck out nine and allowed three hits and one
earned run over six innings in Tucker's 8-2 decision over Berkmar Feb. 27.
Senior Demarcus Taylor took mound honors for Tucker in a 10-3 triumph over
Central Gwinnett Feb. 29, striking out eight and allowing two earned runs
over seven innings. Freshman Jake Lovvorn saved the best for last, tossing
a three-hit shutout and striking out 11 in a 6-0 blanking of Meadowcreek
March 2.

Columbia freshman Jalen Atterburry registered the second no-hitter of the
season in a 15-0 victory over Clarkston Feb. 28, striking out seven over
three innings.

Junior Andrew Conaway turned in a strong overall effort for Cross Keys in
a 3-2 decision over McNair Feb. 27. Conaway struck out three and allowed
four hits and one earned run over four innings to garner the mound triumph
and also went 2-2 with two runs scored on the offensive end.

Lithonia junior Corwin Latner struck out 10 and allowed only one hit and
no earned runs in a 6-4 victory over Stone Mountain Feb. 27.

Senior Myles Sims went 3-3 with three RBI and two runs scored to pace
Martin Luther King Jr.'s 8-2 triumph over Forest Park Feb. 27.

Senior Dominique Flynn struck out nine and tossed a three-hitter over five
innings to help Miller Grove defeat Towers by a 5-1 score Feb. 27.

Redan received a stellar outing from junior Wesley Jones in a 3-0 blanking of South Gwinnett Feb. 27. Jones struck out six and allowed three hits over six scoreless innings on the mound and finished 2-3 at the plate.
