Decatur High Student Injured

Witnesses said one student tried to "play fight" with another.

A student was taken to the Egelston Children Hospital Aug. 10, apparently after a "play fight" turned into real punching and pushing. A Decatur police report said:

A student in the nurse's station told the school resource officer that a second student struck him with a closed fist.

The second student said the first student called him names. He said he pushed the first student away but the student punched him. He said he pushed the student into the bleachers.

Three witnesses said the second student wanted to "play fight" and was swinging his fist at the first student. Two witnesses said the first student was pushed into the bleachers. One witness said the first student was pushed into the bleachers, threw a punch and was punched back.

Everyone agreed the second student helped the injured student to the water fountain. No charges were filed. The condition of the injured student was not known.

And this is newsworthy? It's a good thing we didn't have the Decatur-Avondale Patch in the "Old Days" :>)

Hi, Bulldogger. I consider it newsworthy when a student is injured so badly that he or she has to be taken to the hospital.

We need o get tough on parents so they will understand we mean to restore order. One consequence(as a part of others) could be a reduction in credit score points. The details to be determined by a representative council appointed by the school board. And while I'm at it: 1) Students need to be in uniforms and 2) No cell phone use during school hours....period. Grown ups need to grow up.
