Cleveland Browns Honor Clarence Scott

Clarence Scott, who played football at pre-integration Trinity High in Decatur in the 1960s, has been inducted into the Browns Legends, an honorary group of prominent Cleveland Browns football players.

Scott, who now lives in the Stone Mountain area, and running back Ernie Green formally entered the Browns Legends Sept. 23 before the Browns-Bills game in Cleveland. Scott said to the Morning Journal website in Northern Ohio,

“It (the Legends induction) is a tremendous honor for me. I’ve been a Cleveland Browns fan since sixth grade. Jim Brown was my favorite player. We got a lot of East Coast games — Browns Redskins, Giants — and Cleveland was my favorite team."

The Decatur Active Living website noted,

Scott, 63, played for the Browns from 1971 to 1983, appearing in 186 games (178 straight).  He recorded 39 career interceptions, the third most in club history, and helped the Browns win two division titles.  Scott, part of the last class at Decatur’s all-black Trinity High School in 1967, went to Kansas State before the SEC integrated.  Scott became an All- American at Kansas State in 1970.

Scott was inducted into the Decatur High School Wall of Fame in 2011.
